When I was a little girl I was given a wildlife book from my Dad full of British; flowers, insects, trees, fish, mammals, birds, and butterflies. I would get excited if I found something from the book. I remember over the years I found all the butterflies in the book apart from one. Britain’s largest yellow butterfly, a Swallowtail Butterfly.
Last year I moved from Wales to the Okanagan in BC and this spring I was taking photos of the beautiful yellow Balsam flowers. As I was shooting a little video of the flowers a beautiful Swallowtail butterfly came over the butterflies dancing and flew away. I love nature and this was a delight to see. Over the years I'd forgotten about this butterfly and it brought back happy memories.
Since then I'm full of gratitude to see them a few times a week.
I live in an area with 4 different Swallowtail varieties they are big butterflies the look bigger than the hummingbirds!
Last week my son found one that had broken wings and was dying. There was nothing we could do for it.
I decided that I would paint him on my painting I was currently working on.
